On Friday, the Pennington Day board of trustees, along with representatives from the Sourland Planning Council (SPC) and Timberlane Middle School, took time to pose for the official hand over of a check for $5,000 to the SPC from Pennington Day as part of Pennington Day’s Signature Grant program.

The $5,000 award will be used to support the launch and development of the Sourland Teachers Toolkit and special curriculum designed to assist Hopewell Valley Regional School District teachers in the Timberlane Middle School in helping to create a greater appreciation for the natural beauty that lies just immediately adjoining scenic Hopewell Valley. Timberlane’s incoming 6th grade students for the 2011-2010 semester are expected to be the initial beneficiaries of the program.

On hand for the ceremony, which is taken in front of Three Brothers rock formation at the intersection of Rileyville and Mountain Church Roads, just over the border in East Amwell, (sitting on top of the rock formation) are current Timberlane sixth grade students, Kirsten Long, Grace Tatar, and Kristen Heinzel.  Standing left to right are Pennington Day board members, John Krisulewicz, Regina Phillips, Heather Wurtz, Michael Foster, Andy Beloff, Timberlane Principal Tony Suozzo, and SPC treasurer Andrea Bonette. Standing in front holding the ‘check’ is Pennington Day president Albert Teixeira and SPC president Cliff Wilson. Sitting in front (right) is SPC executive director Tamara Garaffa.
