The Pennington Day Board of Trustees and its Grants Committee would like to thank everyone who turned out for its annual grants ceremony on February 22, 2010 at Pennington Boro Hall.
This way of giving back to the community annually is made possible through the generous contributions of our corporate sponsors, as well as from the revenues collected from tee shirt and cap sales, along with the fees collected from the vendor booth and food stalls that line the town on Pennington Day.
As a reminder, Pennington Day was born 30 years ago in the aftermath of a huge fire at the Pennington School's four-story O'Hanlon Hall in February 1980. This tragedy prompted residents of the borough to hold the first Pennington Day, the proceeds of which helped the prep school recover from the disaster. Since that time, Pennington Day has become one of the most anticipated annual events in Hopewell Valley. Last year there were more than 130 vendors, of which over 25 sold food. Pennington Day 2010 is scheduled from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, May 15.
Approximately $5,000 in grants were awarded to eight deserving organizations at the ceremony. This is in addition to the $5,000 already awarded by the board late last year to the Hopewell Valley YMCA capital building fund to help support the efforts of the YMCA to build a state-of-the-art facility in Hopewell Valley for its residents. Pennington Day also recently granted $5,000 in seed money to the fledging (and now successful) Pennington Farmers Market to help get it off the ground.
The 8 recipients were: Pennington Boy Scouts Troop 44, Tollgate Grammar School PTO, Pennington Players, Hopewell Valley Lions Club, Hopewell Valley Central High School Post Prom Event, Hopewell Valley Senior Foundation, Hopewell Valley Chorus, and the Pennington Farmers Market
Thanks to everyone who came out as well as to the recipient organizations. You are what makes living in Hopewell Valley so special!
Also special thanks to the Pennington Post and its reporter, R. Kurt Osenlund for attending and covering the event in its February 22 issue. Read the story and see the pictures taken by Mr. Osenlund. Also see some of the photos taken by our staff photographer above.
Pennington Day Holds its Annual Grants Awards Ceremony (2008)

January 11, 2009 -- Pennington Day recently held its annual awards ceremony at Pennington Borough Hall. This is an event where Pennington Day, Inc. awards grants to deserving organizations throughout Hopewell Valley and greater Mercer County.
The grants are from money collected from Pennington Day last May. The ceremony is open to the public. Pictured, are the recipients of this year’s grants, as well as members of the Pennington Day Board of Trustees and its grants committee. This year’s recipients are the Pennington Players, Hopewell Valley Lions Club, Real Food for Thought, Animal Allies, Hopewell Township Youth Board, and Hopewell’s Meals on Wheels provider, F.I.S.H.
This is the continuation of a tradition dating back to 1980, when Pennington Day was born in the aftermath of a huge fire at the Pennington School's four-story O'Hanlon Hall. The electrically-started blaze brought 19 fire companies to the scene and prompted residents of the borough to hold its first Pennington Day, the proceeds of which helped the prep school recover from the disaster. Since that day, Pennington Day has evolved into one of the most important dates on Hopewell Valley’s annual calendar, with thousands of dollars awarded each year to deserving organizations throughout Hopewell Valley and Mercer County in an effort to give back to the community.
